Attention: Valentine’s Day is THIS WEEK. In case 2018 is flying by too fast for you to realize it’s February – I’ve got your back. This month we are celebrating God’s greatest gift, the gift of love.
God loves us so much that he sent Jesus here to save us. What does he ask of us? That we love each other!
It’s easy to take the people that are around us most often for granted. Don’t forget that this is a time to show your significant other and/or friends that you love them. This Valentine’s Day let them know that you love and appreciate them with these easy and inexpensive ideas!
1. Write a note!
I love hand written notes. They show that the person actually took the time to sit down and think about how they feel. Personally, it can be easier for me to express my feelings through writing rather than verbalization. The best thing about this is that you can write a note to anyone. It could be a friend, coworker, boss (brownie points!), sibling, parent, barista, and of course significant other. Buy a cute card or use a piece of paper and write down something straight from the heart.
2. Spend quality time together.
I know I spend enough time sitting on the couch next to my husband with a minimum of 2 screens entertaining me. Put down the phones and tuck away the computers. Set aside a time to truly spend together. You could go on a walk, put together a puzzle, visit a favorite museum, or even have a coffee date. The venue isn’t as important as the intentional time you’re giving each other.
3. Make dinner together!
If you’re single and celebrating Valentine’s day, consider inviting some friends or your small group over pot luck style. Everyone can bring a dish and you can enjoy each other’s company. You could even make it a game night!
If you are celebrating with a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife, know that you don’t have to make reservations on a busy night at an expensive restaurant with a prix fixe menu. (If that is your thing, totally go for it!!) Instead, you can pick a recipe at home that you’ve never tried before. Either make it together, or make it for your loved one! Set the table, light a candle or two, and enjoy.
Spread the love
Whatever you do, try to enjoy the meaning behind this fun holiday. Spread love and kindness to friends, family, and even those random strangers that you interact with every day. Even a smile or a word of appreciation can go a long way. Oh yeah, and DON’T FORGET that it’s Valentine’s Day!
