I’m going to tell you something that’s really going to help you in your marriage, as a father, as a mother, in all your relationships.
I didn’t make this up, I got it from somebody, I don’t know who it was. But here’s the word: Unsolicited advice is almost always received as criticism.
Think about it. If someone wants your advice they’ll ask you for it, but when you start giving them advice that they didn’t ask for, they put up their defenses and say “woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, wait a minute. I’m not so sure”.
So remember that maturity is not saying everything you think. Therefore, listen, watch. And if somebody asks for your help, give it to them.
Otherwise, it might be good to just hold your fire, and wait for an opportunity to add value to their life.
