One week after the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival and during his set, country singer Jason Aldean and wife, Brittany returned to Las Vegas to visit and speak with some survivors at University Medical Center. “It feels surreal being back in Vegas today,” Brittany says on Instagram.
The gunman started firing while Aldean and his band were on stage performing the last act of the night. Aldean, his band, and his crew were not hurt as they headed backstage to safety.
In an earlier Instagram post, soon-to-be-mom Brittany was with her friends at a tent near Mandalay Bay. They hid behind some equipment as bullets were being fired.
Before visiting Las Vegas, Aldean appeared on Saturday Night Live for a cold opening, speaking about his personal experience during the tragedy. “People are hurting,” he said. “They’re our children, parents, brothers, sisters, friends.” He continued, “(So) I want to say to them, we hurt for you and we hurt with you.”
He performed “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty, as a tribute to both the shooting survivors and the late singer, who passed on the morning following the shooting.
