In the office complex that I work in there are a lot of conference rooms that have glass windows, and it’s real easy for me to walk past those rooms and see a meeting happening. And I can do the math of what the meeting’s about because I see who’s in the meeting and my natural tendency is to go, “Huh, why didn’t they invite me to the meeting?” And when I do that it always elicits some kind of emotion – whether that’s jealousy, or frustration, or a feeling of insignificance of being left out.
I have found that in that moment that it is my choice as to what attitude I’m going to choose. Am I going to be jealous at what I’m not getting to do? Or am I going to be grateful for what they’re doing because that allows me to be free to do what only I can do.
Your attitude is maybe the greatest thing that you have the potential to influence others with. And your attitude is your choice, today.
