Prayer as a Way of Walking in Love

Applause: 921

In “Prayer as a Way of Walking in Love,” Francis Chan asserts that prayer is one of the most powerful tools for a Christian. It is not only our direct line to God; it is a way of placing others before ourselves, and demonstrating our love for others by endorsing their issues before our own. Moreover, when you pray for another, there is a profound feeling of satisfaction that comes from it, knowing that you have not only acted selflessly, but have taken something beyond your control to someone who is in control. In addition, Chan addresses the issue of persecution, and how we are supposed to respond when someone is persecuting us. His answer? Pray. Jesus urged his followers to pray for those who persecute, and Chan offers no variation on this teaching. When you are unable to control your emotions toward someone treating you unfairly, one of the greatest and most effective releases of stress can be found in prayer. When you take an issue like persecution and surrender it to God, it can trivialize the issue into something that you can manage. The Bible says to “pray continuously,” and in this sermon, Chan extrapolates on the power of prayer in all circumstances of our lives today.
