I Am Sending You Out as Sheep

Applause: 921

In this sermon, John Piper uses Jesus’ final words on Earth to remind us of our role as Christians, and Jesus’ promise to us. Jesus sends our his 12 disciples to make believers of all people, but promises them they will be sheep among wolves, but that Jesus will be with them. Piper uses this sermon, and these words, as a reminder that Jesus’ mandate is as true today as it was today. It is still our responsibility, our burden, and our joy today. We are called to spread Christianity to all corners of the globe, despite the resistance, pain, apathy and suffering we may encounter. This is the evangelist’s creed and one of the responsibilities of all Christians. While all Christians are called to evangelize, not all may be called to be missionaries. This sermon is mostly about missions, but can serve as a reminder for all Christians to avoid stagnation, and apply Jesus’ mandate to our lives today, just as the apostles did thousands of years ago.
